Captain America Winter Soldier Updates

Here newest news on the Captain America sequel, along with my speculation of what it all means. There may be spoilers, but anything I'm going to say is based off the comics, not any actual knowledge of the film's script. Click ahead to read it.

Female lead... Sharon Carter?

First, there's a collection of actresses rumored for the female lead, which is assumed to be Sharon Carter. That would be the niece of Peggy Carter, Cap's love interest from from the first movie. The first round of rumors had Anna Kendrick (Scott Pilgrim), Felicity Jones, and Imogen Poots (Fright Night). The second shortlist had Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four), Imogen Poots, and Alison Brie (Community). So it looks like Marvel is targeting actresses with (or capable of doing) a British accent.

Black Widow and the rest of SHIELD

Also announced is the appearance of Scarlett Johanssen as the Black Widow, along with Colbie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson. This fits with the rumors that the movie will feature Cap working with SHIELD. Additionally, with the films obvious focus on the Winter Soldier, it seems likely that we'll some version of the comic's romance between Black Widow and Bucky Barnes.

Crossbones too

Another character from the Ed Brubraker from run is going to be appearing, and that's the villain Crossbones. Frank Grillo has been cast in the role. In the comics, Crossbones is one of the Red Skulls sidekicks, and also has a relationship with the Skull's daughter Sin. It's possible that one of the rumored actresses will be playing Sin, though it's more likely that the film will go another direction.
