Week Links: Lego, Hunger Games, Trailers, and Oscars

Hey, so this week, there's news about a LEGO movie. I'm torn between thinking it's awesome and thinking it signals the end of the world as I know it (because LEGO is an essential part of my world view). Also, there's a trailer for The Hunger Games. Then there's a couple of other things, but I'm NaNoWriMoing so that's more important than blogging this month. It's after the jump, so go for the clicky.

First look at The Hunger Games

Entertainment Weekly has the first image of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games. The look at Katniss includes her trademark bow and mockingjay pin. Of course she's looking pretty airbrushed and cleaned-up right now. Hopefully, the film itself will include the mud and blood and sweat from the books. It'll be interesting to see how the filmmakers deal with the story's action and violence, since there's no way they'll even consider an R rating, nor should they. Anyway, Lawrence's casting was only announced a couple months ago and the film is due out next March. I really wish more movies came together this quickly. Yes, I'm talking about the eight-year wait for The Hobbit.

A few awesome things

Here's a few things that have been sitting in my RSS feed just waiting to be shared. There's some Marvel movie news, a final piece of Hunger Games casting and news on Steven Spielberg's long-delayed Abraham Lincoln movie, plus a couple pieces of technology that belongs to the future, and my favorite TV show gets a final season. Casting updates and links

Since I last posted about anything about casting, almost the entire Hunger Games cast has been filled in. There's an unremarkable announcement for Zach Snyder's Superman reboot, which is now titled Man of Steel. Also, there's a suspiciously mundane press release for The Dark Knight Rises.

A collection of updates

It's been a while since I posted any links, though it's not like anything particularly Earth-shattering has happened over the last week or so. There's some Warner Brothers news about the future of their comic franchises, news on Ron Howard's The Dark Tower, and a small item on The Hobbit. Oh, and there's more casting for The Hunger Games. A few updates

It's time for some updates to things I seem to be making a habit of posting about. Today, that would be The Hobbit, Hunger Games, Superman, and Wonder Woman. I'll start with this first set photo from The Hobbit of Peter Jackson in Bag End. It's great that it looks exactly the same as it did in The Lord of the Rings, since I'm guessing they had to rebuild completely rebuild it. Also, PJ looks more like a hobbit than ever. That makes me wonder what his cameos will be this time around.

The Hunger Games casting

I'm working on finals right now so I haven't had time to write much for this blog, but this caught my attention. Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence is reportedly on the verge of taking the lead role Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movie (Variety via /Film). I read the entire Hunger Games Trilogy over Christmas break was really impressed. I didn't find it unbearably angsty, which was nice for a YA series, and since then I've been paying attention to the search for a lead actress for the film adaptation. I watched Winter's Bone a couple of weeks ago, and thought Lawrence did a great job  in that role. Lawrence is 20, while Katniss is 16, but I think it's probably better to cast older than younger, and two of the other contenders (Chloe Moretz and Hailee Steinfeld) are only 14. Besides, the actor's age isn't really an issue. Look at Andrew Garfield playing a high-school age Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-man. I think Lawrence would be great for the role.
