Cool bits from the interwebs

Comic-con has come and gone since my last post of links, and as expected, there were some exciting pieces of news and great reveals over the last couple of weeks. I'm not going to try to cover everything that came out of the con, but here's a few of things that particularly stood out to me.

Epic panel on epic fantasy

TOR.com reports on this Comic-con panel that brought together George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones), Brandon Sanderson (The Way of Kings), Kevin J. Anderson (Terra Incognita), Chistopher Paolini (The Inheritence Cycle), Peter Orullian (The Unremembered), Patrick Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind), and K.J. Taylor (The Fallen Moon series). I'm a regular listener to Sanderson's Writing Excuses podcast, where Anderson and Rothfuss have both made guest appearances, so I can only imagine that this panel must have been awesome.

Concept art shows off Avengers

The Avengers didn't have much presence at Comic-con, but with Captain America opening with an Avengers teaser after the credits, and the release of this concept art, it didn't really need to. It gives us the first real look at Hawkeye's uniform, Maria Hill, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, and the 21st century Captain America costume. Also, it looks like Iron Man's got another set of armor, based on the return to the circular chest RT. Personally, I like that Hawkeye and Cap are sticking to their Ultimate Comics look. Wings on the head just don't play well.

LEGO teams up with Marvel and DC

And this is just awesome. LEGO has announced a partnership with DC and Marvel to bring superheroes to plastic block form. LEGO's previously done Batman and Spider-man sets, but the new agreement includes The Avengers, X-Men, and Superman as well. (Variety via Eurobricks)

Jurassic Park 4 maybe going to happen

In a potential follow-up to one of my favorite movies of all time, Steven Spielberg dropped the news that Jurassic Park 4 could be coming in 2-3 years. This may or may not be good news, considering Jurassic Park III, but hopefully, the filmmakers will come up with something more interesting than: People go to island, dinosaurs eat people, people escape island.
