Week Links: Hobbit 3D and more

This week, you can learn all about the 3D filming process being used for The Hobbit. Plus, you can be a part of the The Dark Knight Rises, and as usual, there're some rumors about various upcoming productions. Also, I saw In Time, Tower Heist and Puss in Boots. Dang, it's movie season again.

Hans Zimmer wants your voice for Dark Knight Rises

In case you didn't already have a reason to go see TDKR, you know have the possibility of adding your voice to the project. Just go here and record your contribution, which the various internet sources tells me translates to Moroccan for "He rises, he rises."

Another Hobbit set video

Fresh from the set--well, sounds stages--of The Hobbit is Peter Jackson's fourth production diary. It's embedded above, in case you somehow didn't notice. On one hand, it's nice to see them taking 3D so seriously. On the other hand, doesn't the 3D concept art seem just a little overkill? Plus, this video actually shows Elijah Wood on set, as well as glimpses of one of my most anticipated scenes, Mirkwood Forest.

Abrams eyeing the next Star Trek villain?

Rumor has it, J.J. Abrams wants Benicio Del Toro for the villain in Not-Actually-Called Star Trek 2. Reportedly, the role is so secret that Abrams won't even tell Del Toro what it is, which would seem to make this casting somewhat unlikely. I'd appreciate the secrecy if it wasn't for the fact that even if this does happen, Del Toro playing the villain isn't going to surprise anyone.

X-Men will get a Second Class

Though I doubt they would be stupid enough to use Second Class as a title (though it's FOX, so who knows?), a writer has been hired to pen a sequel to one of my favorite movies of this year, X-Men: First Class. It'll be interesting to see how they play this, and whether they try to hold to the continuity of the first X-Men films (which First Class barely did), or if they take the opportunity with The Wolverine to do a soft reboot of the franchise.
